This cable features an SFF-8482 connector on the drive side, which combines SAS/SATA data with power contacts, and breaks out to a standard 7-pin SATA data connector plus a 15-pin SATA power connector on the controller side. It is commonly used in systems with hybrid or SATA-capable controllers where power and data must be supplied separately.

Important compatibility note:

This cable is intended for use with SATA drives that use an SFF-8482 connector. It does not convert a SATA controller into a SAS controller and will not work with native SAS-only drives or controllers.
